Hello,
I contact you for I tend to an independent contemporary art structure in Geneva */Duplex/* www.aduplex.ch. I appreciate your work and course of action. I would like to invite you to an “experimental” exhibition (no works but pieces of data) within the framework of our autumn program, which tackles the theme of economy. You will below find the description of the project. The show is collective, international and local. The invitation is sent to 30 artists in total.
The demands are simple; three pieces of data are to be submitted. One photograph, a number, a statement of an object of value present in the studio.
Economy of means/economic means (Autumn/Winter 2007) Value (September/October)
Study of the relations between art, space and value. Collective show based on invitation. Little text but the intuition that he sum of information gathered will allow to draw a potential state of art. Artists are invited to present a photograph of their studio (working space) with its surface (superficial area) in square meter along with the enunciation of an object or thing present in the studio that in their opinion holds most value. The show is composed of photographs on the wall, plotter printed in b/w or printed in colour. The statements of the object of value are all presented the same way: digital impression of the text in Helvetica on a stiff mounting. They take up a wall for themselves presented on a line in alphabetical order. The names of the artists are associated to the statement on the back. A floor projection randomly scrolls the studio area indications in square meters. Ok, this show involves notions of exchange values, and common funds; the artist’s status is also seriously discussed. It goes without saying that the finality, the eight meter poster…, can’t be attributed to any individual in particular or to the curator. As well as the series of enunciated data can’t be considered as a succession of individual works, but more as a collection of sensible facts, a confession of taste. The series might be put on sale in this manner: “Values”, format, featuring: artist, date.
In summary, if this project interests you, submit by the 21 September:
1 atelier photograph (Jpeg or tiff, high or medium définition)
square metre dimension of the atelier
the object that has the most value
I hope you will find some interest in this project and am looking forward to taking part to its making with you. All the best, Christian Bili.
